The 71st Separate Jaeger Brigade was created immediately after the start of the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, which began on February 24, 2022.Having appeared as a unit of the Reserve Corps, in April 2022, units of the brigade left the reserve and took part in hostilities in the Kharkiv region, and since June 2022 in the Donbas.
