B257.Russian formal memorial cross badge dedicated to the lost crew of the Northern Fleet Oscar II-class
nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine K-141 “Kursk”. On August 12, 2000, during a major Northern Fleet
exercise in the Barents Sea, K-141 Kursk suffered a catastrophic internal explosion triggered by a faulty HTP
(hydrogen peroxide) training torpedo, killing all 118 crew members aboard. This multipart badge was produced
as a solemn commemorative piece following the tragedy.
